Passion. Experience. Diligence. That's me in a nutshell.
I should add longwinded, frugal and nauseatingly good-looking.
Here's where you come to learn a little bit more about me. The basics: I'm a brand journalist/content writer for a Charlotte-area mortgage lender. I used to be a newspaper reporter. I don't like Oxford commas (I'll reiterate this point later).
- I like talking to people but Jesus is my favorite conversationalist.
When I was a newspaper reporter, I covered crime for three years. In that time, a convicted murderess swung at me with her purse (she missed); gang members put me on YouTube (they’re the worst); and I was on an episode of “Snapped” (my first - and only - claim to fame).
I later switched newspapers and beats, going from writing about shootings, stabbings and homicides to writing about small business, entrepreneurship and eventually county government. I developed whiplash.
I helped launch a blog about black fatherhood. I’ve sired no offspring.
I won a statewide award for using Twitter for crime reporting. I now use Twitter for GIFs.
I’ve gone on overseas missions to the Dominican Republic and Malawi, East Africa. I sold contraband and diabetes (i.e., chocolate and soda) to afford my way there.
Things I like: Studying the Bible, my roommate/brother/best friend, my girlfriend, free food, comic books, church, my black self, mission work, the X-Men, documentaries, "This Is Us," “Xena: Warrior Princess,” “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit,” “Sherlock,” "Attack on Titan," Agatha Christie novels
Things I don’t like: math, economic inequity, the Oxford comma, heat, plagiarism, white supremacy, institutional racism, snakes, raw tomatoes
Things I like a little too much: Dad’s BBQ ribs, Auntie’s sweet potato pie
